Hillsborough County, Florida. Matthew Sammon is known for calling Tampa Bay Lightning games on the radio. However, his most recent announcement was an apology for his DUI arrest. Sammon told Lightning fans, “I am sorry, and I also apologize for any negative light that my actions may have been shone on the Tampa Bay Lightning for what happened last night. It is just a process I will have to deal with this summer, unfortunately.”
Police were drawn to Sammon when he made a right turn across two lanes. During the DUI stop Sammon apparently had an odor of intoxicants, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Sammon also demonstrated difficulty completing the field sobriety tests. He was arrested and then provided a blood alcohol sample of 0.108 and 0.106. Sammon faces a DUI criminal charge.
The Tampa Bay Lightning quickly pointed out that Sammon is an independent contractor.
