Kirkland, Washington – June 22, 2007. Kollin Nielson, 30, of Renton was killed when a suspected drunk driver careened through barriers and into his work zone. The tragedy occurred at Northeast 116 Street on Interstate 405.
Mr. Nielson and his co-worker Brandon Overland were struck by a Honda Passport. The accident caused Mr. Nielson to be launched into oncoming traffic. Mr. Overland sustained injuries. The driver was arrested at the scene for Vehicular Homicide and Vehicular Assault. His arraignment is scheduled for July 10 in the King County Superior Court.
Troopers of the Washington State Patrol are livid over this incident which is the state’s 486th work-zone accident involving alcohol. The WSP will increase patrols around Washington highway construction zones and employ aerial surveillance to capture reckless drivers.
Our thoughts and prays are with the families of Kollin Nielson and Brandon Overland.
